SACS Shading Our Children Project
Greening our school campuses to promote well-being and academic success.
The Tree Canopy Growth Fund is excited to partner with Southwest Allen County Schools (SACS) on a new initiative to plant hundreds of native trees on school properties over the next few years.
In November 2023, we began the process by planting 30 trees at Covington Elementary with help from volunteer groups and business sponsors from General Dynamics Mission Systems and Regan + Ferguson Group Realty. In April 2024 we welcomed these groups back and also had a large group of volunteers from Iota Chi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority to help plant another 100 trees at Covington and Deer Ridge Elementary Schools. We are excited to watch these new trees grow!
If you or an organization you represent would be interested in sponsorship and/or volunteer support for future planting projects, please complete the online form below.
Thanks to our generous partners!

Why Trees?
Mental Health
Proximity to trees and nature have shown to reduce stress and enhance overall mental health in both children and adults.
Academic Success
Students with regular access to green spaces and nature tend to have fewer behavior challenges in school and have higher academic achievement.
Cooling Effect
Trees can have a dramatic cooling effect on hot, sunny days, giving relief to students who walk to school, play in marching band, and more.
Community Pride
It is easy to take pride in local schools when the campuses include well maintained trees that add both function and beauty.
